Works progressing quickly on campus

Things are moving ahead quickly here at Bishop Burton College. The Equine Indoor Arena is due to be handed over in July and the Learning Resource Centre, Student Accommodation and new main entrance will be operational by the start of the next academic year.

New Access from the A1079

The construction of the new entrance walls has commenced. A through colour render is to be applied to the walls, and curved pre-cast concrete coping stones fitted. The avenue of oak trees has been planted, and the verges are to be seeded. The new access will be operable from the 1st September 2008 to all student and College traffic.

New Access Perimeter Road and Car Park

The construction of the Estate Roads is now complete. The wearing course will be laid towards the end of the project to avoid damage. The fence lines and gates are almost complete and some landscaping / planting has taken place. The construction of the car park remains on programme, with completion scheduled for August 2008, and will be used by students from September 2008.

Part of the new car park will be retained by the contractor during the construction of the Sports Academy Building. Progress continues with the bus terminus, and this too will be completed on schedule. The design for the street lighting to the car park and bus terminus has been completed, and works will commence shortly.

Learning Resource Centre

Progress on the external envelop continues with the completion of the masonry walls and tiling to the roof expected shortly. Details of the external landscaping proposals have been received and approved. Good progress has been made on the floor screeds and under floor heating. The Completion and handover is planned for the end of August 2008.

Equine Arena

Works to the external envelop is almost complete. Works to the internal walls, stairs and partitions are progressing well. The external landscaping design has been approved and prices are awaited from the contractor. The arena, including the additional external works requested will be handed over in early July 2008.

New Student Accommodation Buildings

The external building envelopes are almost complete. The internal fitting out is progressing well. The external works have been redesigned to provide cost savings and the phased completion of the two new buildings remains on schedule for August 2008.

All-Weather Sports Pitch

The final designs have been completed and prices received. Work on site is about to commence, with completion scheduled for October / November 2008.


Landscaping

Strategic landscaping report has been received and has been sent to Planning Officer to discharge the Planning Condition. Further design schemes have been produced for consideration and approval by the College.

Farm Developments

The works to the Pig Unit, Silage Clamp and Dirty Water System have all been successfully completed. Works to the Dairy Unit to provide a new milking parlour have commenced.

Head gardener Chris Robinson has overseen much of the landscaping work and is committed to ensuring that the College retains it's rural feel. Chris retires in September after 36 years at Bishop Burton College.
